Child Rights 101: What Every Child is Entitled To

Because childhood should be protected, not just survived.

Child rights are not privileges or special favors, they are fundamental human rights that every child is born with. These rights are recognized under the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history.

Every child, no matter where they live or who they are, is entitled to live in dignity, safety, and love. So, what exactly are these rights?

  • Right to Survival and Development
Every child has the right to survive, grow, and thrive in a safe and healthy environment, with access to food, shelter, healthcare, and support.
  • Right to Education
Children deserve quality, inclusive education that equips them with knowledge, skills, and the freedom to dream and achieve.
  • Right to Protection
No child should suffer violence, abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Every child has the right to feel safe and be protected from harm, both at home and in society.
  • Right to Participation
Children have voices, and their views matter. They should be heard and involved in decisions that affect their lives.
  • Right to Identity
Every child has the right to a name, nationality, and legal recognition of their identity and family ties.
  • Right to Health
Children are entitled to proper healthcare, clean water, good nutrition, and a clean environment to ensure their physical and mental well-being.
  • Right to Play and Rest
Children have the right to leisure, play, and cultural activities. Play is essential for their emotional, social, and cognitive development.

At ADORÉ, we safeguard the rights of vulnerable and orphaned children, ensuring a conducive environment that is equally accessible and responsive to child welfare needs. We believe that protecting child rights is not just our responsibility, it is our purpose.

We provide the basic necessities of life that many children are deprived of, food, clothing, shelter, clean water, and education. We offer emotional and mental health support because healing goes beyond physical needs. Our work also includes skill set development to empower children with tools for independence, self-expression, and long-term sustainability. We create spaces where children are seen, heard, and supported. And we work with communities to advocate for systems that protect every child’s dignity and rights.

When we protect child rights, we don’t just change one life, we change the world.
